Web Ink Now: Social media marketing explained in 61 words

APLINK urges you to watch the video embeeded in David Meerman Scott’s post – follow the link below

You can buy attention advertising

You can beg for attention from the media PR

You can bug people one at a time to get attention sales

Or you can earn attention by creating something interesting and valuable and then publishing it online for free: a YouTube video, a blog, a research report, photos, a Twitter stream, an ebook, a Facebook page.

Social Proof in a Virtual World – itsReal

If EVER there was a new Virtual World Development occurring I believe we are witnessing one via Yoovolution.com

The program driven by Internet Marketing boasts 3 days 33 thought leaders 30,000 lives transformed  –  the program organisers have married internet marketing tactics with their OWN custom-built virtual world which might be better described as a virtual space. In addition, these internet marketers are trying to grasp social media opportunities via their blog, youtube, and of course facebook & twitter.

check out their promo video:

Whether these marketing claims manifest entirely is not the issue, what is reality is the virtual world that has been created and the social need that Yoovolution is attempting to satisfy, yes in turn making them money.

The tactics of SOME Internet Marketers are considered by a large percentage of the public as infecting in a hideous virus kinda way and I myself are prone to ignore the multiple pleads and email avalanche these consultants persist to do, yet it must work and it is done within the legal framework of the internet. (in most cases)

That said, the yoovolution proposition is compelling and may just be the medicine needed to kick-start virtual worlds again – something that second life the premier virtual world, but who has gone PUBLICLY MUTE and other emerging worlds like Twinity might mimic or make relevant to their worlds.

Yoovolution is about HELPING people, bringing people together to share for their personal development, as well as their personal and business growth – and participants don’t need to catch a plane to be with others also seeking answers and guidance.

So is this the ultimate Positive social influence execution of Social Proof ?

Are existing Virtual Worlds missing the point on what they really should be about ?

Are these Internet Marketers just cashing in on peoples in abilities ?

Can Yoovolution create a herd effect to bring new life to virtual worlds?

I know what i believe this develeopment offers, let me know your thoughts – APLINK – itsReal 🙂

Social Proof source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_Proof

Social proof, also known as informational social influence, is a psychological phenomenon that occurs in ambiguous social situations when people are unable to determine the appropriate mode of behavior. Making the assumption that surrounding people possess more knowledge about the situation, they will deem the behavior of others as appropriate or better informed. Since observation of others usually provides only inconclusive information about what behavior is most profitable, the term ‘informational social influence’ is superior. Social influence in general can lead to conformity of large groups of individuals in either correct or mistaken choices, a phenomenon sometimes referred to as herd behavior. Although informational social influence at least in part reflects a rational motive to take into account the information of others, formal analysis shows that it can cause people to converge too quickly upon a single choice, so that decisions of even large groups of individuals may reflect very little information

Web Ink Now: How the Obama campaign worked with bloggers

On Election Day 2008, an amazing 25 percent of Barack Obama voters were already directly linked to him through social media, including blogs, Facebook, Twitter, and other social sites according to The Nation.

Putting aside politics and just considering the election from a marketing standpoint, I am absolutely convinced that Obama won the U.S. presidential election because he was the candidate who most strongly embraced new marketing. Way back before he even declared himself a candidate, Obama and his staff and volunteers jumped into the online world.

What social media can’t do – haircare…in the air with Jetstar

Hats off to Sunsilk & Jetstar for doing the unthinkable and turning the onboard safety demonstration into an onboard passenger interactive ad –

sunsilk

– not only will the flight attendants wave shampoo bottles instead of seat-belts but also I imagine the mock safety vests will be covered in Sunsilk branding – the oxygen mask – hmmm how will that work… I guess the biggist reward besides making the onboard safety demo even more funny will be the free samples for all the female passengers –

– in a global 1st (or that i have heard of) SUNSILK will go down in history for breaking the airlines safety procedures in leiu of what i can only imagine to be on massive sponsorship – now even social media can’t pull off a feat like that –

– now will they make a massively expensive TVC like the folks at Air New Zealand

… to demostrate the SUNSILK Safety Procedures aboard this Jetstar Service –APLINK – itsReal

Ad agency vs. PR agency turf wars! – itsReal

Ad agency vs. PR agency turf wars! Pass the beer and peanuts! – Post by: David Meerman Scott

BattleOver the past year, I’ve had hundreds of opportunities to speak with people who work in the marketing and PR departments of large organizations about their online marketing and social media initiatives.

In discussing challenges, many marketers bring up their agency partners. They really do want to work with their existing agencies to help them with social media and online marketing. Honest, they do.

Do you dare leave a comment on someone’s blog or facebook

It’s not hard to know that I am probably one of the most active people on the planet in social media and hence my sometimes meaningful and informative based actions on the Internet can be confused with over zealousness or dare i say SPAM.

I prefer over zealous in short OZ – which is coincidentally short for Australia which is where I originate.

Getting back on Topic – Do you dare leave a comment on someone’s blog or facebook, I would have to say that thankfully most of us live in a civilized world and when you have an opinion whether it be business or personal you have a right to get your opinions heard and understood – I think many have an issue with Understanding.

aplinkitsreal

If you are seeking ways for people to recognise you as an expert in what you do, who you are or want to be – then the Internet & social media will allow you to show your true colours – and let you stand out.

To combat over zealousness, (OZ) I would recommend you read, as I am, a new book I have picked up called the “social media bible” it’s a marathon of a read at 821 pages – but my friend David Meerman Scott has contributed to the book as has Robert Scoble so with these 2 recognizable names (and many more) you are in for quite an absorbing read & education. The book has an online companion site and social network, which is only available if you buy the book and input the right code. For those who would like to know, the book is co-authored by Lon Safko & David K. Brake and published by Wiley. I am also pleased to note that Virtual Worlds gets a whole chapter titled “Virtual Worlds-Real Impact” in the Book.

Getting back on Topic – With a little help from experts and your own instincts you must and should dare to continue to add comments to someone’s blog, Flickr, Youtube, facebook or LinkedIn accounts, fanpages or, the list is endless on where you can comment to stand out – BUT be prepared to manage the subsequent influx into your email inbox of praises or outrage and one worded thumbs up or down comments. – APLINK

Overseas Singaporeans will be able to join in the action as well. Aside from catching the live feed of the parade on Channel NewsAsia’s international feed, they can log on and create an online avatar to take part in the celebrations in a virtual Orchard Road.

SINGAPORE: National Day Parade organisers are already working to build up excitement for the event. It is less than a month to National Day but Singaporeans will not have to wait till then to celebrate. This year’s parade organisers have planned a month’s worth of events to kick start the nation’s birthday.

Col Ang Heng, chairman, Sponsorship and Celebrations, National Day Parade Committee, said: “We believe National Day belongs to all Singaporeans. That’s why we want as many Singaporeans as possible to participate in and own part of this National Day. “That’s why this string of activities will help encourage Singaporeans to come on board and participate in the various degrees in different ways.” There will be a series of weekly roadshows at several shopping malls to bring National Day closer to Singaporeans.

The roadshow will travel to HDB Hub on July 18, Jurong Point on July 25, Tampines Central on August 1 and Marina Square on August 8. It will include winning entries from the photo contest “Singapore My Home” and short film competition “My Pledge”. Lead-up activities will also be held at the Esplanade and eight community clubs.

Koh Tong Seng, chairman, Changi Simei Citizen’s Consultative Committee, said: “There’s limited tickets to go to the Marina platform, so we wanted to bring more residents out from their homes to celebrate together.” Other events include a concert at West Coast Park on August 2 and a behind-the-scenes exhibition of the parade. Singapore will also see its very first National Day Countdown Party held at Clarke Quay on August 8. The National Trades Union Congress’ Youth Wing will also hold celebrations at the Padang with a candlelight vigil.

Overseas Singaporeans will be able to join in the action as well. Aside from catching the live feed of the parade on Channel NewsAsia’s international feed, they can log on and create an online avatar to take part in the celebrations in a virtual Orchard Road. Users will have to register and download software from the website before they will be able to access the virtual areas.

If one cannot physically be at the parade itself, one can take part in the Pledge Moment. The Singapore Civil Defence chime will ring at 8.22pm during the parade to prompt all Singaporeans to recite the pledge together as one nation. – CNA/vm
