Eyeball Tattoo Trend – NEWSOXY

Besides the possibility of blindness being very present, who are we to determine what someone does to their own body, yet those that don’t understand the desire to be unique wish to ban the eyeball tattoo procedure – your thoughts ?

Source NEWSOXY – Eyeball tattoo trend is surging in America and Canada. The trend encourages young adults to an eye tattoo leaving behind a full colorful ink.

I don’t mind tattoos, but one for the eyeball? It’s the new trend in North America as many young adults are coloring the whites of their eyes. The procedure is done by injecting ink into their eyeballs.

Eyeball tattoo trending is in the nation’s prisons or as gang members try to find ways to identify themselves with a particular gang. Alternatively, even just to appear formidable in an unusual alien kind of way. One fellow took the challenge and had the whites of his eyes tattooed blue.

Trends come and go, but this one is a bit scary to watch. The procedure is known as a “body modification” and is often used for patients that had trauma to their eye. Joining piercings is one modification, but most doctors advise against putting anything in your eyes that will permanently mark or damage them.

Tattoos on the eye can be painful and discomforting. Even after the procedure, it feels like something is in your eye, according to most people who had it done. Television shows have entered into the foray as well, with eyeball tattoo episodes appearing on CSI:NY.

New Laws Under Consideration To Ban Procedure – read more at

La Grasse Matinée – Exhibition of Photography and mixed media – artists exhibition details below.

The 12 works entitled La Grasse Matinée depict an image of a young woman lost to the world in slumber, cherishing her eiderdown illuminated only faintly by the dawn one languid, carefree morning. A soft light plays on her figure, elsewhere only emptiness and faint shadow. She is utterly innocent and passive in her surrender to sleep and dreaming. In this silence, she hears nothing except the beating of her heart. Morning light plays amongst the trees. Through half closed eyes in the irregular intervals of light, she sees music; then hears Debussy playing Claire de Lune, she stirs. She can no longer sleep and slowly recalls a poem by Verlaine from a book read many years ago which begins to appear in her minds-eye.

These mixed media works on canvas create a fusion of impressionist imagery wrapped in semi-transparent musical scores from Debussy, combined with original French text from the poems of Verlaine; the subtle texture of this lucent blanket offers an intriguing misty depth to the images.

AJE

AJE’s process is a combination of photography and painting.

First creating the photograph then printing it onto a surface by use of either high quality digital printing and/or photographic emulsion. AJE spends the majority of his time working with oil and acrylic paints, silk screens and graphite to bring out the desired expression in his works. To experience the works in person enables one to appreciate the layers and subtlety created with the fusion of these different mediums. The final work is neither a photograph, nor is it a painting but something directly in between with the qualities of both.

AJE has lived, worked and exhibited his work in the UK, France and Australia and he now resides in Singapore.

Tattoo Lovers Just Love Uniquely Singapore

Tattoo Pride for Tattoo Artistry – Singapore Tattoo Show Tat2 2010

Tattoo Lovers will descend upon Singapore in 2010 … seeking creativity,  education in responsible tattooing, observe fusion of east and west Tattoo Artistry … and 3 days of massive entertainment.

With the intention of not only providing a show for tattoo lovers, both in Singapore and Asia, but also wanting to ensure sufficient education in responsible tattooing amongst teenagers and young adults; the Singapore tattoo show is coming back for the 2nd time, bringing more entertainment and exposure to people through this unique form of art. Organized by Debra Tan and Kirby Lian from Utopia Studios, the show is to be held at the Singapore Expo, Hall 6B from 8 to 10 January 2010, starting from 12pm to 10pm on the 8th and 9th, and 12pm to 8pm on the 10th.

Tat2 2010 Event Invitation: Mingle with over 15,000 Tattoo Fans & Artists

http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=141203425388&ref=mf

With guest appearance by Kim Saigh (LA ink), Tim Hendricks (Gold Rush tattoo), Michelle Myles (Daredevil tattoo and winner of TLC’s Tattoo War Competition at the 6th Annual Boston Tattoo Convention), Shige (Yellow Blaze Tattoo, Japan) and returning to this show again will be Chris Garver (Miami ink) and Bob Tyrell (Night Gallery). Also attending the show will be VIP guest, Matt Booth, celebrity jewellery designer and owner of Room101 who is also the guest judge for this upcoming year’s tattoo show with Room101 being the major sponsor for this event.

People attending Tat2 2010 can be prepared for a wide variety of visual feasts with a line up that includes Rubberboy’s performance, Best male and female tattoo competition, and the first of its kind in Asia – Miss Tattoo Asia, alongside with over 300 internationally regarded artists coming together to showcase their talent in full view of audiences who are fans or just mere curious. This is the place to be if you are an avid tattoo collector or  people who are interested to see what Tattoo today is all about, a culture that used to be taboo but is so widely welcomed in recent times.

The newest addition to this coming year’s show is the Miss Tattoo Asia segment. Probably the first of its kind, it attempts to open the minds of the general public that beauty comes in all forms, especially in recent times where people are exposed to so many different things and the form of beauty is somewhat subjective. Trying to break away from the stereotypical female beauty, it aims to address a form of liberalism and modernist way of perceiving beauty.

Apart from this unique beauty contest, there is also the best male and female tattoo competition where proud owners of beautiful masterpieces on their bodies get to flaunt and compete to stand a chance to win the top prize. You’d be surprised to see how realistic and beautiful a tattoo can get, as the standard and works of tattoo artists are getting better and better, especially with quite a handful of artists who already have a history of doing fine arts before they ventured into tattooing.

The message of this show to entertain is made evident with other programmes such as the Rubberboy, who has three Guinness World Records for being the most flexible man alive. Daniel Browning Smith, who is also known as the Rubberboy, is an actor, entertainer and contortionist who also went on shows such as Ripley’s Believe it or not, the Oprah Winfrey show and the grand prize winner of 30 Seconds to Fame. Works by finalists of Beauty is Skin Deep, a body art design competition, will also be displayed in the art gallery section as well as works of graffiti artists and some of the tattoo artists’ works, showcasing their talents and passion on canvas.

And we said entertainment – Singapore’s legendary Velvet Underground is our party venue sponsor and there will be nightly events to give artists and fans the opportunity to mix, dance & party as only possible in uniquely Singapore – Asia’s Jewel city.

The Conference Starts Before Anyone Shows Up

David Meerman Scott’s view on Social Media for events highlighting Singapore’s 1st Tattoo Show as an examnple…

The 1st Singapore Tattoo Show, held Jan. 9–11, 2009, was endorsed and supported by the Singapore Tourism Board and included show ambassador Chris Garver of Miami Ink. The goal was to get 5,000 visitors to the show, where more than 120 artists from around the globe representing all the various modern tattoo styles ticked away with their machines and all sorts of fun and funky exhibitors showed their wares.

Promotions leading up to the Singapore Tattoo Show were anything but ordinary, and what I find particularly impressive as a show promotional tool was the Facebook Group called Tattoo Artistry that was started by organizers 3 months prior to the event. Facebook turned out to be a terrific way for people to connect well before the physical event, and the Tattoo Artistry Facebook Group quickly gained 3,000 members, securing a place as the center of this artwork for the region. The physical show started with a virtual group.

The passion of the members of the Tattoo Artistry Facebook Group for “their event” meant thousands of people promoting to their Facebook friends. The online community aggregated people eager to attend the live event. Instead of relying on buying expensive advertising, a community of passionate fans built anticipation and buzz.

With more than 15,000 people attending, the Singapore Tattoo Show brought three times the expected number of attendees Just as interesting, The Tattoo Artistry Facebook group is now Asia’s largest social network for the tattoo industry, tattoo enthusiasts, and fans. The group will continue to grow as an online destination to connect, and plans are already underway for the 2nd Singapore Tattoo Show in 2010 with the Facebook group as the center of the free promotions for the event.
