Review: Tough Love – Web in Travel 2009

WIT – 5 years on – Web In Travel celebrated its 5th birthday and even though it was my first WIT, I came away with the understanding that the conference has depth and sincerity that can only be achieved through trust.

On arrival, I was handed a program guide and tucked inside was a list of what must be the who’s who of the online travel industry that were attending.

One of the Many Panels of Experts

I am now going to proceed and summarise my WIT 2009 journey in the best way I know – the social media way = keywords.

Enlightening, profound, humorous, creative, conflicting, old ways, new ways, homemade cookies, social media, engagement, search, entrepreneurship, mentors, students, Twitter, status, community, art, opinions, fear, deals, Facebook, style, value, graffiti, empathy, monitor, react, pre-emptive, classic, roses, luxury, budget, holistic, experience, destinations, in your face, google, to serve, passion, tough love, did I say Facebook?

Special mention needs to be made relating to the events discussion I witnessed, even with prompting by distinguished moderator – there seemed to be no obvious understanding or relevance or decisive recognition of how social media might have an enormous impact on the events business. I can only direct those in the events business to a review of an event I was involved in that clearly shows how events can deliver superior results if you engage a community online in somewhere like Facebook.

Different Aspects of Social Networking Sites – Peter Du’s Blog

Social Networking is addictive and can pay high returns for those who invest their time and commitment to the social media processes, even when you consider its advantages & disadvantages on Peter’s post below – above all if you are an entrepreneur be passionate about what you believe in and others will believe too… hey be creative too…

Different Aspects of Social Networking Sites

The advantages

A social networking site is like a virtual meeting place where people join to connect with varied interest groups, and build up new acquaintances. It provides a socializing platform for people of diverse backgrounds, nationalities and professions. You can connect with different knowledge groups and build upon your own awareness level. Some use these networking sites to promote their blogs, to post bulletins or even to pursue prospective love alliances.

Social networking sites also offer ample opportunities for small business entrepreneurs as they are easy to use, and involve least monetary obligations in most cases. In comparison, creating and maintaining a commercial website might be a costly proposition for small business set ups. Social networking sites have also established themselves as reliable and effective outlets of advertising.

The biggest edge that online networking has over other socializing media is that most of these sites provide free networking avenues, hence making it well within the reach of common man.

Text100 Entertains for pre DMfest event – itsReal

Have just come back from Text100‘s pre-event dinner for DMfest 2008 to be held in Singapore – we were met by SiTF the organisers and a few speakers that will be at the event on the 30 – 31 October in Singapore – my fellow invited guests were bloggers, social media true believers – and UGC’s – yes it means User Generated Content – Tech65 as an example – I was there to represent The Digital Movement – TDM.

I won’t babble here about the importance of and the value that DMfest 2008 will offer those that have a passion for this space – the details are below. But clearly the conversations that were carried out whilst munching on pizza and raw fish you can easily see that passion will drive this event to success.

For me it was my fourth meeting of the day – the meeting prior was very cool as I was able to demo Virtual Geek Terminal in twinity to one of the owners of the real Geek Terminal who got very excited – it looks so real he said – that I was a bit too tired to contribute – that said sometimes listening is the best thing you can do somtimes – clearly the event is being well organized, the speaker line up impressive for a 1st time event and with Text100 driving the publicity support – all together it means if you have a passion for Digital Media and User Generated Content you should attend this event and learn just a bit more – i did tonight.
