Beijing sets the Games alight with spectacular Opening Ceremony | FoxSports – Fox Sports

Beijing2008 Olympic Torch

WITH thunder and lightning and a tender plea to humanity, Beijing amazed the world last night.

On a steamy night in the Chinese capital, the host citys heart-thumping Opening Ceremony side-stepped politics, bomb threats and pollution worries and delivered an audio-visual feast of dragons, dynasties and pyrotechnics.

It climaxed with the lighting of the giant cauldron draped in red atop the Birds Nest by Chinese gymnastics champion Li Ning, who captured three gold medals at the 1984 Los Angeles Games, the Olympics in which China returned after a 32 year absence.

THE world’s biggest secret has been blown out of the water with images of Beijing’s Opening Ceremony captured in spectacular moving pictures.

Stunning video of floating 3D humpback whales, kung fu fighters and trapeze gymnasts gave a tantalising glimpse of what is to come in eight days.

In the middle of the action is a giant earth globe hanging in the air.

The thirty-second preview of the show, obtained by Beijing Now, was snared by a Korean TV network in an undercover operation believed to have been carried out on Tuesday evening.
