“We feel honored to receive the Red Herring 100 Europe award. This clearly confirms our vision of a 3D world based on real cities, allowing real people to interact and communicate with each other.” says Metaversum CEO Jochen Hummel. “Twinity is coming alive through our partners, including Cinestar, Berlin.de, Zitty, Be.Berlin, Bigpoint, Sony Pictures, the city of Singapore, Geek Terminal Singapore, The Digital Movement (TDM) and many others. Together with our users, they are filling our vision of a real 3D world with life.”

This nomination as one of the top 100 ground-breaking technology companies proves that, with its innovative concept of real 3D cities inhabited by a real 3D community, Metaversum offers a trend-setting contribution towards the three-dimensional web: Twinity’s realistic 3D replicas of international metropolises enable internet user from all over the world to communicate and interact with each other in a whole new way. It’s a place for real people to share experiences online in a familiar environment.

Red Herring’s list of top private businesses is an important guide to identifying new and innovative technology companies. In their early years, enterprises such as Google, eBay, and Skype were recognized by Red Herring editors as significant concepts, likely to alter the way we live and work. To pick the winners, Red Herring’s editorial staff evaluated several hundred enterprises according to strict standards, including thorough analysis of financial data and subjective criteria such as management quality, implementation of strategies, and effort in the area of research and development. The virtual world of Twinity is currently in the open Beta phase. At http://www.twinity.com, you can register for free and explore the 3D world.

American Idol David Archuleta Visits The Virtual World Habbo

American Idol And Habbo Bring David Archuleta To The Virtual World

David Archuleta Avatar Earlier this year we (v irtual world news)  reported that American Idol was coming to Habbo through an exclusive license. The deal can’t officially bring in representations of the current cast or judges–or it least it doesn’t require participation–but it did put Habbo in a good position to reach out to the American Idol stable of singers. Now David Archuleta, runner up in the seventh season, has come to Habbo. Last week the singer held a well-attended in-world chat. Now Habbot is prepping to release an exclusive video of the live interview and virtual activities.

A rep explained that the in-world American Idol Theater holds about 80 avatars at one time, but a view-only option allows an additional 800 users to watch the interview without being in the room. The room was flushed about every five minutes to let new users in. As such, the company couldn’t say how many total attended, but did note that the room was full the entire time.

The video of the in-person interview and virtual activities will go live tomorrow on the Habbo Archuleta fan page along with free wallpapers and special badges for being a part of his group.

Travel Industry Seeks Socially Responsible Second Life

In 2007, I met with Management at Suntec Exhibition Centre in Singapore regarding virtual worlds and the opportunity for Real & Virtual World events to be run in Unison with each other. Singapore recently held the IT Show at Suntec, 770,000 people packed the centre and SGD58.5 million was spent in four days – how much more could have been spent if they held a virtual event for those unable to make it to Singapore over the 4 stipulated days – i wonder ?

Excerpt from Travel Industry Article below:

At the ITM’s 37th annual conference in Liverpool this week, the people responsible for spending an annual £34bn ferrying business executives and staff around the world will hear that physical attendance is not always the ideal way to convene conferences and confabs. Instead, the technology of online virtual worlds can bring delegates together in an equally productive, immersive, businesslike environment which is also socially responsible, greatly reducing the impact of corporate travel on the environment.

Alan Haymes, director of London-based New Business Horizons – which provides Second Life offices, meeting and conference facilities for other clients as diverse as Universal Music Group and the London Chamber of Commerce – will be leading the ‘Meeting in Cyberspace’ session at the ITM conference, explaining the business benefits of events that take place in a virtual world and comparing the experience not only to physical meetings but to the ‘traditional’ virtual option of teleconferencing.

Haymes comments: “Virtual world conferencing is a more complete experience than the webcam or teleconferencing suite, which means that the ITM’s initiative extends beyond saving money and improving CSR. In a virtual world, delegates can immerse themselves fully in the conference environment and truly feel part of a big event. Breakout and one to one sessions can be easily incorporated, there’s less pressure on performance and appearance … and it can be more fun.”

I also shared this idea with Twinity management….

virtual worlds in Asia – itsReal

I wonder why Benjamin Joffe does not appear to know about Twinity as yet ? I just watched his 60 min presentation slides – wish i could have been at the event but i kinda got what he was presenting – below he summarizes plus the link will take you to his slides.

To summarize the summary:

* The 2D web of virtual worlds is doing well, while the 3D web is recovering from the “Second Life Aftershock“

* Regulation is going to be very complex as 2D and 3D environments allow the conduct of various “activities” from creation and remix of content to commerce, gambling and more. Of course, Internet is global which makes things VERY hard to regulate.

* Most “digital immigrants” do not understand that the term “virtual” simply means “digital” and that there is no special magic there. Great post here on this topic by Bill Gurley at Benchmark Capital

* Our hopeful conclusion promoted awareness campaigns about the risks associated with digital identities and the celebration of the benefits of what is becoming a “digital third place”.

The presentation is hereunder without the 60 minutes talk but the full report should be made available soon.

Social Media Jobs on the Rise – itsReal

Last year I did a search on recruit.net for “social media” and i got an amazing ZERO jobs results.  Today I thought i would try again to see if things had changed, knowing full well that they would have.

Today, Recruit.net hosts 44 current job openings that are related to social media. I have not checked them all but “Social Media Manager” positions lead the list.

Recruit.net is a google of recruitment who focus on Asia Pacific, the wave of social media activists like myself and others more high profile, seem to have created a NEW world of career opportunities in Asia Pacific for those keen to take advantage of the benefits of full scale social media strategies for business.

Here is the link to the jobs on offerhttp://www.recruit.net/search-%2522social+media%2522-jobs

…and if you are thinking of a career in social media maybe my secret… social media secrets might help out…

https://aplink.wordpress.com/2009/03/06/social-media-secrets-for-business-by-aplink-itsreal/

Like everyone is in awe of the platforms, technology & commentors that allows for social media success like; facebook, twitter, NING, linkedIn, Friendster, ecademy.com, orkut, plurk, MIXX, DIGG, youtube, wordpress, blogger, ping.sg, nuffnangtwine, squidoo, stumbleupon, kindernet, expatfinder, getsatisfaction, techcrunch and many more

… so will corporations be in AWE of the social media experts inside their business who will deliver unprecidented profitability by treating and engaging with customers and partners as part of their business community, with all the benefits and rewards the customers deserve. Social Media will lead the way in redifining customer relationships and i imagine the next time I do a search for social media jobs openings the results will far exceed my wildest imagination.

A night for tech start-ups in Singapore | Techgoondu

Techgoondu at Geek Terminal Singapore

Start-ups who presented include: (see original post for links)

* Twinity (Jeremy Snyder): a 3D online-world that replicates real world cities in a virtual environment. The city of Berlin has already been launched, and both London and Singapore will be up later this year. According to Jeremy, they have about a 100,000 sign-ups since the launch of Twinity in September last year in 2008.

* Brandtology (Aaron Koh): a social media monitoring start-up that help companies makes sense of the big bad web by mining sentiments from it. Brandtology is founded by CEO Eddie Chao, who previously incubated managed security services player e-Cop that was acquired by Temasek in 2007.

* Makeaffinity (Thomas Tan): ever wanted to control robots over the internet to slug it out in a death match? Now you can with Makeaffinity’s robot sharing platform, which allows folks to play with and make web robots without much programming whatsoever.

* 2359 Media (Hong Ting and Wenhan): founded by a trio of passionate entrepreneurs who just finished their NUS studies and a stint in Silicon Valley. 2359 Media is an advertising platform for mobile phones utilizing location based services.

* Jorbb (Shen Heng): Most job advertising portals cater to the white-collar worker. Shen wanted to create a portal specifically for blue-collar workers — part-timers, trade promoters, temp staff — and Jorbb is the result.

* Neat Co (Sarabjit Singh): Neat co, a small US company with a second office in Singapore, was the only physical tech appliance company amongst the presenters. Showcased was their contextually aware OCR reader, a smart scanning solution for receipts and the like.

* Phokki (Sean Seah): And lastly, Phokki, a start-up which turns your photos into works of art via a platform that links artists to end users directly. I’ve written a post on Phokki before.

We had a couple of other start-ups who didn’t present like seemeCV and Airvert. Not to worry. Due to good interest in this first event from anecdotal feedback (thanks to those who gave theirs!), the Techgoondus will think about running this on a semi-regular basis once in a few months. Will keep you readers posted if we do run this again. Meanwhile, if you’re interested in ideas on this front, feel free to drop me an email.

Use Google to Check Time: – ReadWriteWeb

Like many other shortcuts for Google, the time shortcut is an easy one to remember; simply type ‘time’ and you’ll get back results for the various time zones within your country. Want to check times in other regions? Just type ‘time country’ and if the country you are searching for spans several time zones, Google will give you a quick result.
